It’s easy to see that the Space Jam website is light years behind what is produced today. It’s not always easy to identify what makes for a good modern website. We know it’s not Space Jams, but what is it?

A good, custom website design knows its place in the world wide web. If you’re selling handmade bird feeders you’re going to want a boutique, crafty look to your page. If you’re a site that offers tax advice, you’ll want a site that looks professional and polished. Consider your market and the design should follow.

You want your custom website design to wow, but be practical.

If you get too caught up on one segment of your viewers you may estrange other potential viewers. The design should be specific, yet open enough to allow for lots of traffic.

It can be easy to get caught up in the details, but think big picture. Does your website accomplish what you set out to do? Is it useful? Does it offer something unique to users? If you consider these factors first, the website’s aesthetic will be built on a strong foundation.

Finally, what does a good, custom website really look like? It’s hard to say. In 1996 Space Jam didn’t look so bad. Style is constantly changing, but good design will stand the test of time. Consider the use of color, white space and balance throughout the page. Web design has changed drastically since the ‘90s but it all comes down to knowing your market.
